Zine making has been a personal practice I’ve engaged with for many years, but only in 2019 did I start creating zines in order to begin distributing them. I can’t remember my first introduction to zines, but I do remember being very young and experimenting with making zines as a child. In creating work situated within my personal experience, expressing parts ideas through a familiar and easily low fidelity form allows for more experimental storytelling and making.
Zines are a medium where where ideas are explored not just through writing, but through the use of the form. Zine culture gained popularity in the 1980s and has since continued to exist as a means of building community. Zines also exist as a medium that has been tied to dissent, inspiration, sharing information, and activism.
